As you progress through the game and restore color back into the world, one color at a time, the level design seems to become more beautiful and alluring. Graphically, it is minimalist in nature, with a pencil-to-paper art style and storybook-like animation. The game has underlying tones of trauma, depression and sadness, and trying to recover from it all. She moves through a world of gray, running and jumping over obstacles and barriers in her path as she tries to restore color to her world. Meaning “gray” in Spanish, Gris is a no-fail platforming game that stars a woman named Gris who has lost her voice, and seemingly her will.
